Fifteen students from Tipp City Schools competed successfully in the 2023 Online "Virtually Judged" Ohio Academy of Science State Science Day. Students presented independent research projects in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Tippecanoe High School student Sadhil Mehta earned a Superior rating, as did LT Ball Intermediate fifth graders Isabella Everhart, Everett Henry, Dawson Vocke, Claire Sutton, and Aria Tomb. They are among the highest-performing students honored at the recent State Science Day Celebration of Science Showcase event.
Sadhil also earned:
- Ohio Northern University Scholarship, $2,000 renewable;
- Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Advanced or Alternative Energy Scholarship, 3rd place, $750;
- State Science Day Multi-year Participant, six years.
To receive an invitation to present their research at the state level, students first compete at the local level and, with a Superior rating, advance to Upper Miami Valley District Science Day. A Superior rating is required to qualify for State Science Day.
More than 550 students from across the state participated in the state competition. Honorees earned almost a million dollars in scholarships and awards.
Upper Miami Valley Science Days allows students in Champaign, Darke, Miami, and Shelby Counties to complete and present original scientific research. This program is organized and supported by many area schools, teachers, parents, Edison Community College, businesses, professionals, community organizations, and other interested individuals.
