Office for Exceptional Children

The Office of Exceptional Children provides a variety of resources to meet all students’ needs. The department directs all aspects of the district’s special education services, Gifted Services, Health Services, and English Language Learners programs.

Special Education Services

Special Education services include school psychologists, therapy, counseling, social work, nursing, and home instruction. Our staff works collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure comprehensive services are in place for students. Please contact Tom Pecor, Director of Exceptional Children, at (937)669-6313 or tpecor@tippcity.k12.oh.us with any questions or concerns.

English Language Learners
English Language Learners support is available for students in grades K 12 who have a language other than English as their primary or home language and are not yet proficient in English. The program provides assessment, interventions, and monitoring services. It is designed in accordance with mandated state policies and procedures.

Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973/ADA is a civil rights law prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The statute ensures that a qualified student with a disability receives reasonable accommodations and services necessary for the student to access education or school-related programs and activities.

Home Instruction
Home Instruction is a service available to students who cannot attend school due to significant health problems. Instruction is a temporary service and is not designed to replace classroom instruction. Services are determined on an individual basis.

While the district hopes that you will never need this service, it is available to provide continuity in your child’s educational program while they are temporarily unable to attend school. To apply for home instruction, please complete and submit the home application.

School Health Services
School nurses are available to promote health and safety in our schools. They provide case management services and collaborate with staff to ensure student wellness throughout the school day.
