School Resource Officers

In partnership with the Tipp City Police Department, Tipp City Schools has two full-time School Resource Officers, Officer Phil Osting at Tippecanoe High School and Officer Warren Edmondson at Tippecanoe Middle School. Both officers and their colleagues also visit our other schools regularly, conduct security assessments, assist with developing crisis management plans, and are readily available for emergencies. Their presence ensures security, fosters positive relationships with students, and builds a partnership that helps create a supportive, safe environment for our students and staff.

Our SROs bring years of law enforcement experience and a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors. They are more than just law enforcement officers. They are mentors, educators, and trusted members of our school community. Their presence at our schools reflects our district's commitment to maintaining a safe and nurturing educational environment.

Purpose of the School Resource Officers
The role of our SROs goes beyond traditional law enforcement. Their primary goals are:

  • Safety and Security: SROs work closely with school administrators to develop and implement safety protocols and respond swiftly to potential threats or emergencies.

  • Relationships: SROs play a crucial role in fostering positive relationships between students, staff, and law enforcement. They are approachable figures that students can trust and confide in, helping to build a bridge between law enforcement and the community. Our SROs recognize the importance of being available to our parents for guidance, support, direction, and referrals outside of the school, if necessary.

  • Education: Education is a key aspect of our SROs' role. They engage with students on topics such as drug prevention, internet safety, bullying, and responsible life skills providing valuable information that helps students make informed, safe choices.

  • Crisis Response: SROs are trained to be the first line of response in any school-related crisis, including but not limited to potential threats, medical emergencies, and natural disasters. They handle a wide range of situations with professionalism and care.
