Camp Days

We have ten full day camp sessions as part of StageCrafters that are filled with fun and learning for the young aspiring performers. While everyday is full of a varied schedule of activities and rehearsals, we tend to follow the schedule included below:

DAY ONE:
In the morning we introduce our counselors and play a variety of small and large group games in an effort relax the campers and get them familiar with their surrounding and the people they will be working with over the two weeks.  In the afternoon, we break the kids up into groups and have them go through "audition sessions". These are brief introductions to some of the songs and scenes in the show.  We teach them some of the dances, have them sing the songs, and read the lines to us so we can find out each child's strength and get them introduced to the show itself.

DAY TWO: The morning of day two is dedicated to finishing up the audition sessions we started the afternoon before.  That afternoon we introduce COLOR WARS. This team-based competition is a battle of theatre games between groups of campers throughout the entire camp experience. Much like the "House Cup" competition of Harry Potter, campers earn points for their teams by playing games, working hard in their rehearsals and showing camp spirit! After the campers leave on this day, the counselors all meet and work on casting the entire production in a multi-hour meeting.

DAY THREE: Rehearsals begin! Students are introduced to what scenes they will be in and begin rehearsing.  We continue to intermix these rehearsals with theatre games

DAYS FOUR-SEVEN: These days are full of rehearsals and game sessions (large & small) as the scenes directors work to teach and perfect their individual scenes.  In the afternoons we also do mini-camp performances where the campers can show the rest of their group what they have prepared for the show!

DAYS EIGHT-NINE: We start to put larger sections of the show together, make minor adjustments in scene rehearsals and add in all props for the production.  We also try on DAY NINE to do a full run-through of the show with campers watching so they can see everything they have put together.

DAY TEN: We run the show in the morning and then spend the afternoon playing games as we relax before our performance.  The conclusion of COLOR WARS is held at the end of the day on DAY TEN... and the counselors from the losing team pay dearly!

Performances

There are three performances at the end of the StageCrafters camp. For each, the campers are asked to arrive 60 minutes prior to show time. During that time we get them prepared and focused for the performance.  The performances (matinees at 3pm and evening performances at 7pm) are open to the public for FREE and seating is done by General Admission. Doors to the theatre open 30 minutes prior to the performance. If it's a performance that is not followed by the cast party, campers are free to leave with their parents after the performance. On the afternoon of the cast party, we will keep the campers entertained and fed between their two performances!

Cast Party

Between our two Saturday performances, the campers stay with us at the high school to celebrate their accomplishments with a large pizza party with punch, cake, fun and friends!  Parents can then take a relaxing break in the afternoon and return to see their stars in a final performance that evening on the CPA stage!

Camp Memories

One of the most beloved parts of StageCrafters is the wonderful memories each camper has archived each year.  Each camper will be given an 8x10 cast photo from the camp. In place of the camp packet we distributed for years with a photo CD with hundreds of photos from the two week session taken by counselors, parents will be sent digital download links to download their favorite photos and a digital download of the performance.  This will save parents a trip to the school board office and let the campers see their videos and photos even sooner!
